Inland Flooding Viewer
Click here to access the map viewer for new Inland Flooding data. This data provides projections of pluvial flooding, which occurs when precipitation intensity exceeds an area’s ability to absorb the water. It models two scenarios – historical and mid-century (under RCP8.5) – at a 200m resolution. The flood data displayed in this viewer is aggregated to the smallest watershed (HUC-12) to help users understand the potential direction and magnitude of future flooding
The raw 200m pluvial flood data can be downloaded via this Box folder. Data is available by region, according to the boundary conditions used to run the model, with separate layers for the 'Historical' and 'Mid-Century' flood estimates. We encourage potential users of this data to first review the flood methodology white paper, Inland Flood Assessment across Continental U.S. Using WRF-Hydro, which summarizes the materials, methods, and assumptions used to produce this flood data. Limitations of the model are also documented, along with potential future research pathways to improve inland flood modeling with WRF-Hydro.
