Strategies and resources for building resilience
Resilience planning starts with understanding the types of hazards and risks a community will likely face in the future. ClimRR helps analysts and planners to gain an understanding of local-scale future conditions and extremes for wind, precipitation, and temperature for most of the United States. The ClimRR National Map Explorers allow users to conduct on-the-fly analyses of future conditions and extremes. The ClimRR Local Projections Tool is an easy way for users to get all available historical and future information for a specific location (address, latitude/longitude, etc.). The ClimRR Use Case Examples provide examples of how ClimRR can be used to conduct risk analyses for different planning objectives and needs.

Strategies and actions for mitigating natural hazard risks work best when developed by a multidisciplinary team where each team member has a clear role to play in building a more resilient infrastructure system, business, or community. Once implemented, the effectiveness of the adaptation strategies must be monitored over time, and adjustments made to improve a businesses’ or community’s ability to reduce risk exposure. Although this general description of adaptation planning suggests that it is primarily a technical process, experience has shown that building a diverse and multidisciplinary planning team, having challenging conversations with those who do not understand the potential risks, and proposing creative strategies designed to reduce risk exposure are often the most difficult parts of the planning process.
